There are many meaningful ways to support the mission of Church of the City beyond a traditional gift. Non-cash gifts often allow you to give more generously — and more tax-efficiently — than giving cash alone. We welcome the following types of gifts.
Donate appreciated stocks, mutual funds, ETFs, or bonds held for more than one year. You avoid capital gains tax and may deduct the full fair market value. This is one of the most tax-efficient giving methods.
For those considering a gift through stocks and securities, please contact our Accounts Receivable Manager, Diane Dawson, who can give you specific directions. Keep in mind that in order to receive the tax benefit, stocks and securities need to be received by the church within the calendar year — we recommend initiating the gift by December 20th to give planners, brokers, and processors adequate time.
If you’re 70½ or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA — up to $105,000 per year — completely tax-free.
The IRS requires you to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA each year. If you don’t need that money to live on, a QCD allows you to send it directly to Church of the City instead — and pay no taxes on it at all. Your QCD counts toward satisfying your RMD, so you’re fulfilling your IRS obligation while giving generously at the same time.
This is ideal for someone who has saved well for retirement, doesn’t need the distribution as income, but is required to take it regardless. Rather than receiving it as taxable income, you can put the full amount to work for the mission of COTC.
To initiate a QCD, contact your IRA administrator and provide them with our information:

Gifts of land, a home, or commercial real estate can be transformational. Property must be debt-free and marketable. The IRS requires a qualified appraisal.
COTC would likely work with a foundation like National Christian Foundation or The Signatry to process this type of gift. Please contact Stewardship@cotc.com to speak with a team member who can discuss your potential gift and begin the process.
We also accept gifts of jewelry and coins directly. Please contact us below to speak with a team member before making this type of gift.
Already have a DAF with Fidelity Charitable, Schwab, National Christian Foundation, or another provider? You can recommend a grant directly to Church of the City at any time.
Simply share with your advisor at your Donor-Advised Fund that you’d like to recommend a gift to Church of the City. They should only need the following information:

Gifts of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other digital assets can be a tax-efficient way to give, avoiding capital gains tax on appreciated holdings. For crypto gifts, we work with foundations like National Christian Foundation or The Signatry to process your gift seamlessly.
Please contact us below to get started, and a team member will guide you through the process.
Owners of closely held businesses or family partnerships may be able to donate a portion of their interest before a sale. These gifts require advance planning — please contact us early in the process.

When you donate an appreciated asset directly — rather than selling it and donating the cash proceeds — you typically avoid capital gains tax entirely, and you may claim a charitable deduction for the full fair market value. This means more of your wealth goes toward the mission you care about. Always consult your financial advisor or CPA before making a non-cash gift.
Let your broker or financial institution know you’d like to make a charitable transfer of securities to Church of the City.
